Last Lordโs Day, we turned to ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ฐ ๐๐:๐๐โ๐๐ and the words of our Lord in โ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ฐ๐จ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ.โ In this short parable, Christ confronts us with a sobering truth: it is possible to say all the right things before God, and yet live as though we have never heard Him.
In Matthew 21, one son said, โI will not,โ yet afterward changed his mind and went. The other said, โI go, sir,โ but never went. One openly refused but repented; the other spoke the right words but remained disobedient. The sobering truth is that Christian words without Christian obedience are empty before God.
Yet the point of the passage is not that we should simply try harder to become the โgood son.โ We aim to be neither, because morality cannot save us. Our hope is God the Son, Jesus Christโthe true and faithful Son who said โYesโ to the Father perfectly, obeyed all the way to the cross, and gave Himself to save rebellious sinners by grace through faith.
Therefore, let us not settle for merely being moral people who know how to say the right things. Having been saved by Christ, let us seek to become more like Christ. May we obey and faithfully work in His vineyardโnot to earn His favor, but because in Christ, we have already received grace.
Last Lordโs Day, we were reminded from Psalm 51 of something we all need to hear: what do we do when we sin?
So often, when we fail, we hide. We become ashamed, we withdraw, and sometimes we even feel like we need to โfix ourselvesโ before coming back to God.
However, David reminds us that the answer is not to run away from God, but to run to God.
We were reminded that repentance begins when we stop making excuses and honestly call our sin what God calls itโbut we also learned that our sin, no matter how serious, is never greater than Godโs grace. We cannot cleanse ourselves, undo what we have done, or make ourselves worthy before God. Christ alone is our hope.

As we near the end of our study in Colossians, Paulโs final greetings introduce us to believers whom Christ had graciously redeemed and who were now laboring for the sake of His kingdom. Their lives remind us that the gospel is not merely a message we believe, but a power that transforms us and calls us to serve Christ and His people.
We have been redeemed to belong to Christ, to serve His people, and to labor faithfully for His kingdom, following the example of Christ, who, being fully God and fully man, humbly served His people (Matthew 20:28). Having been loved by Him when we were undeserving, we are called to reflect that love through humble service to others.
Church, may we ask ourselves: Are our hands willing to labor for His kingdom, and are our knees bent in prayer for His people? If Christ has redeemed us, we should not merely be people who receive ministry, but people who gladly serve with our hands and labor on our knees in prayer.
May the gospel that saved us continually move us to love, serve, pray, and labor faithfully for Christโnot to earn His favor, but because we have already received His grace and love.
